Turn Any Residential Proxy Into a One-Click VPN

If you have ever tried using a proxy before, you probably remember the frustration.

You buy a proxy, and the provider hands you a cryptic block of text: an IP address, a five-digit port number, a username, a password, and a dropdown asking if you want HTTP, HTTPS, or SOCKS5. Then you have to figure out where to paste all of that. Do you change your Windows or Mac network settings? Do you hunt through Chrome’s advanced menus? Do you install a sketchy browser extension from a developer you have never heard of?

And when you finally get Chrome to work, you open another program—maybe Discord, Slack, Spotify, or your terminal—only to realize it is completely ignoring the proxy and leaking your real location anyway.

We decided to fix this. In the latest release of the ProxyBase desktop app, we added a feature called One-Click VPN Mode. You pick a residential connection in the country you want, flip a single switch, and your entire computer is routed through that connection.

Why Regular VPNs Get Blocked (and Why Residential Proxies Don't)

At this point, you might be asking: “Wait, if I just want a one-click switch, why wouldn't I just use a standard commercial VPN?”

The answer comes down to where the IP addresses come from.

Traditional VPN services host their servers in commercial data centers (companies like AWS, DigitalOcean, or Linode). These data centers have public ownership records known as Autonomous System Numbers (ASNs). Security systems at companies like Cloudflare, Google, Netflix, and prediction markets (like Polymarket and Kalshi) know every single one of these data center IP ranges by heart.

When you visit a website through a normal VPN, the website immediately sees: “This visitor is connecting from a data center rack in New Jersey, not someone's living room.” That is why you get hit with endless “select all bicycles” CAPTCHA puzzles, temporary bans, or flat-out access denied screens.

Residential proxies work completely differently. They route through real home internet accounts provided by residential ISPs like Comcast, Verizon, AT&T, Vodafone, or Deutsche Telekom. When you connect through a residential proxy, the destination website has no idea you are using a proxy at all. You look identical to an everyday person sitting on their couch browsing from home.

How One-Click Mode Works for You

Until now, getting that genuine residential identity meant dealing with the headache of manual proxy configuration. With One-Click VPN mode in ProxyBase, you get the trustworthiness of a residential connection with the ease of a modern VPN app:

1. Pick your countryChoose where you want your connection to appear from (United States, United Kingdom, Germany, Japan, etc.) in the ProxyBase desktop app.
2. Flip the switchClick the Tunnel toggle button. Your computer connects to the residential node securely.
3. Browse normallyThat is all. Every browser tab, program, background tool, and command-line script on your machine immediately routes through that location.

What Happens Behind the Scenes (Without the Jargon)

You don't need an engineering degree to understand what the app is doing. Here are the three main things happening quietly in the background:

  • Whole-computer coverage: Instead of changing settings in a single browser, ProxyBase creates a temporary, virtual network tunnel on your operating system (Windows, macOS, or Linux). Any app that connects to the internet flows through this tunnel automatically.
  • No DNS leaks: A common trap with cheap VPNs and proxy tools is that while your web traffic goes through the proxy, your computer still asks your local internet provider to look up website domain names (known as a DNS leak). ProxyBase catches and handles these lookups safely inside the tunnel, so your real location is never exposed.
  • Clean, safe disconnects: Have you ever turned off a VPN or proxy only to find your internet completely broke because the software left behind dirty network settings? ProxyBase uses a rollback journal. The instant you turn off the tunnel—or even if your computer goes to sleep or restarts—your network cleanly snaps right back to your regular Wi-Fi or Ethernet.

When Should You Use This?

Here are a few common everyday situations where this feature makes a huge difference:

1. When a website blocks your commercial VPN
If you have ever tried visiting a financial site, an online marketplace, or a ticket vendor while your VPN was on and received an error like “Access Denied: VPN Detected”, One-Click Mode solves this immediately. Because you exit through a real home ISP, the website treats you like an ordinary local resident.

2. Accessing location-specific tools and platforms
Whether you need to check how an overseas search engine displays results, test how your website loads for users in another country, or use services restricted to specific regions, you can switch locations in seconds without reinstalling anything.

3. Running tools and scripts without configuring each one
If you run automated software, data scrapers, or multiple desktop browsers side by side, configuring proxy credentials inside each app individually is tedious and prone to mistakes. One-Click Mode lets you protect the entire workstation in a single click.
